Born and raised in Western Australia, Helen Iles was a prolific writer from an early age, and gained publication in magazines before leaving High School. An addicted writer, Helen writes short stories, poetry and novel length fiction and has been published in numerous anthologies and magazines across Australia and overseas. She has won poetry competitions, the first with ‘The Horse From Ethel Creek’; has won the National Horror Writers Award with “All in the Family’ (Short Story), and placed equal third in the Tom Howard International Mystery Writers Competition with her second novel ‘Whistling Gums’, now titled "A Call to Sarah."
Writing training materials and delivering training professionally, Helen has conducted writing courses for TAFE over the years, has tutored the Society of Women Writers Wednesday Creative Writing Class for seven years, and facilitated Poetry and Creative Fiction workshops for various groups across the State.
In 2012, Helen launched her creative writing DVD series Your Private Tutor. The series currently consists of Story Writing, Writing Challenges and Writing Your Memoirs. She is currently at work producing further DVDs covering a wide range of writing topics.
Helen is the current President of Society of Women Writers WA. She has won the coveted Society trophy, the Bronze Quill, in 2007 and again in 2010 for Short Story writing.
In 2012, Helen's novels, Bitter Comes the Storm and Penny's Silver Dragon were published as e-books.
