I was born in England and grew up in Ireland. After working as a university librarian in Dublin, I joined the British Secret Service [MI6] and operated in Asia.
I married Peter Jones in Penang, and our five children are Malaysian-born. We travelled extensively, finally settling in Perth when our children were school age.
I’d always written stories at odd moments, but when youngest son started school, there was time to discover if I could write seriously. I sat at my typewriter with no plan or plot, and what emerged, three weeks later, was an adventure novel for children. It was published hardback in Sydney and paperback in London, as was my second novel. The third was published in Adelaide.
The fourth novel, Danger Unlimited, was brought out by Fremantle Press in 2007. The story starts in Fremantle but most of the action moves between Singapore and an off-shore drilling rig.
It attracted some very good reviews, and one of my favourites was written by a 12 year-old for Yarra Online. ‘Danger Unlimited’ is a great adventure book….When you start reading it, you can’t stop….The author carries you through the story in a way that you feel you’re one of the characters.’
I had similar ‘can’t put it down’ comments from parents and grandparents who’d bought the book as a present and read it themselves first. One said she’d stayed up to 2 a.m. to finish it!
I am currently writing a series of articles and another adventure novel which is set in Fremantle.
When not working I love painting, music, tennis and being around children.
Danger Unlimited [$16.95] suits readers 9 – 14. It is available in most good bookshops and online from www.facp.iinet.net.au
